Series Assembly Guide FAQ

Hasagawa 1/72 VF-1A Armored Valkyrie Bullseye Operation Part1

The VF-1A armored Valkyrie piloted by Warrant Officer Linus Philander in Operation Bullseye, as seen in the Master File "VF-1 Valkyrie Space Wings," gets a fantastic model kit from Hasegawa! It features newly developed missile hatch parts for the right side of the chest (without circular slits); the A type of head is included. The missile hatches can reproduce the open or closed state by parts replacement; a chest missile hatch with a circular slip and round finger parts are also included as a bonus. The parts are molded in green-gray, light gray, neutral gray and clear, and decals are included for three versions (Integrated Army SVF-22 "408" Warrant Officer Linus Philander, Darts 3; SVF-37 "710" Warrant Officer Karl Lager, Darts 4; Integrated Army 2nd Education and Training Air Wing SVF-59-affiliated aircraft).

Assembly Guide

Skill Level.2 Basic modeling skills are required. Parental supervision may be required for younger children. These kits are generally suitable for beginner builders. A basic set of modeling tools are required including nippers, hobby knife, sanding sticks/paper, file, and tweezers. No glue is needed for the general assembly. Parts will need to be removed by using a pair of nippers and cutting the part away from the runner. Parts may require clean-up where they were removed from the runner.

Gunpla (plastic model kits) are a snap together assembly and do not need plastic cement to complete. We always recommend having some plastic cement handy as a part of your modeler's tool kit. If you prefer to fix your model in a particular pose then plastic cement will work. Plastic cement is also perfect to use if a joint is loose. Apply plastic cement in a single thin layer and allow it to dry completely before test fitting. Re-apply more cement if necessary.

Gunpla (plastic model kits) are designed to be built and displayed without the need for painting. Kits are molded in different colours replicating the colours of the actual mecha from the Gundam series. A technique called colour separation, where multiple parts of the model are molded in different colours on the same sprue is also used. Gundam kits often include stickers or water-slide decals that can be applied to the model to enhance its appearance. Some Gunpla kits come with pre-painted parts or parts with pre-applied details, such as metallic or translucent finishes.

Many modelers still choose to paint their kits to customize and add further detail. Painting allows for more creativity and personalization, enabling modelers to achieve unique effects, weathering, and colour schemes that may not be available out of the box. However, the kits are designed to be enjoyable and visually appealing even without painting, making them accessible to a wide range of hobbyists.

Frequently Asked Questions

"Armored Valkyrie" sounds cool! What armor does it have?

This kit specifically features the VF-1A in its "Armored" configuration, seen in the "Macross: Space Wings" episode "Bullseye Operation Part 1." The armor includes: Shoulder and chest armor: These thick plates add significant protection to the Valkyrie's vulnerable areas. Missile hatch covers: New hatches replace the standard ones, offering different aesthetic options and potential missile storage details. Head options: Choose between the standard head or a new "visor head" for a unique look.

Is this a complete VF-1A or just Part 1?

This kit is only Part 1 of the Armored Valkyrie, focusing on the armored components and head options. You'll need additional parts, likely sold separately as Part 2, to build the complete VF-1A with its signature fighter configurations.

Does it come with decals for the "Bullseye Operation" markings?

Yes! The kit should include decals specific to the "Bullseye Operation" version, adding authenticity and visual flair to your Valkyrie. Look for details about included markings in the product description.

How well does the armor integrate with the standard VF-1A parts?

This depends on the specific manufacturer and design of the kit. Some might offer seamless integration, while others might require more effort or adjustments for a perfect fit. Reviews and detailed descriptions can help gauge the fitting and assembly experience.

Is this just for Macross fans, or could it appeal to general mecha model enthusiasts?

Even without the Macross lore connection, the Armored Valkyrie has a striking design with distinctive armor and customizable options. The click-fit assembly and poseable figure can appeal to any mecha modeler who enjoys building and displaying unique fighters.
