Our Founders Story - From Childhood to Gunpla (1964-2019)
Cam's story begins in a childhood marked by strict parenting and sky-high expectations. While these early experiences forged an unbreakable work ethic and discipline within me, they also sparked a burning desire for independence and self-expression.
As I ventured into adulthood, the allure of entrepreneurship beckoned, promising the freedom and creativity I so deeply craved. My first foray into the business world saw me crafting wooden furniture and ride-on toys for young children, before I shifted gears into builders' equipment hire. But my inaugural hobby and toy store Scenic Rim Hobbies truly set the stage for what was to come.
Fast forward to 2016, and a new chapter began with City Hobbies and Toys in the heart of Brisbane's CBD. For three years, I poured my heart and soul into this venture. But as any seasoned entrepreneur knows, the road to success is rarely a smooth one. Sky-high rent and sluggish sales growth proved to be our kryptonite, and in December 2018, I made the tough call to close up shop in early 2019.
But amidst the challenges, a beacon of light emerged, Gunpla. Discovering this incredible hobby and the vibrant SE Queensland Gunpla community was a game-changer. It was like finding a missing piece of myself I never knew existed.
As I surveyed the Australian market, I saw a glaring gap - a lack of dedicated, customer-obsessed Gunpla retailers. And just like that, the gears started turning. What if I could combine my entrepreneurial spirit with my newfound love for Gunpla? What if I could build a business that not only fulfilled my ambitions but also served and empowered a community I deeply admired?
And so, from the ashes of City Hobbies and Toys, a new dream was born. A dream to create a space where Gunpla enthusiasts could not only find the kits they craved but also connect with a passionate, like-minded community. A dream to build something more than just a store - to build a movement.
This was the beginning of Gundam Express Australia. And let me tell you, it's been one hell of a ride...
The Birth of Gundam Express Australia (June 2019 - present)
I set out to create an online store that would not only provide Gundam and other mecha kits but also foster a community of passionate builders.
While we may not be master builders ourselves, we're dedicated to serving those who are. Our focus is on providing the best possible selection, service, and support to Gunpla and mechpla enthusiasts of all levels.

Meet the Founder
Cam is a dedicated family man with a passion for entrepreneurship and community service. At his core, he values excellence, fairness, and continuous growth.
A loving husband to Amanda and father to Hamish, Emily, and Angus, Cam prioritises creating a nurturing environment for his children, focusing on instilling emotional intelligence and valuable life skills. He extends this care to his dogs, Millie, Jasper and Poppy, ensuring they are part of the family's warm and supportive home.
His empathetic nature extends beyond his immediate family to his local community, where he strives to make a positive impact through his business ventures. Cam finds joy in fostering deep connections with others and has a genuine interest in learning from those around him.
Despite many personal challenges growing up, his resilience and determination have shaped him into a trustworthy and reliable individual.
When not working on his businesses, Cameron can be found actively supporting his children, or seeking out new knowledge to fuel his personal growth.
