Series Assembly Guide FAQ

Bandai 1/35 MG Patlabor Ingram 3rd TV

Bandai delivers the first really accurate Patlabor kits in their second series of Master Grade kits outside the Gundam Universe. The results of course are incredible, with all the bells and whistles we expect from a MG kit. Detailed cockpit with lifting chest armour to see the detail. Both standing and seated pilot figures. Weapons set of baton, long baton and revolver (the revolver actually is stored in the right leg, just like the "real" one). Three sets of interchangeable hands for different poses and weapons. And of course, like all Master Grade kits, it snaps together and is pre-coloured, although painting will definitely improve the finished results. The center section of the instruction book is a complete painting guide with colour mixtures. Front section is a history of the labors (all text in Japanese) with line drawings. And the final bonus is that it is in 1/35 military scale so that building dioramas and adding details is much easier.

    Assembly Guide

Skill Level.2 Basic modeling skills are required. Parental supervision may be required for younger children. These kits are generally suitable for beginner builders. A basic set of modeling tools are required including nippers, hobby knife, sanding sticks/paper, file, and tweezers. No glue is needed for the general assembly. Parts will need to be removed by using a pair of nippers and cutting the part away from the runner. Parts may require clean-up where they were removed from the runner.

Gunpla (plastic model kits) are a snap together assembly and do not need plastic cement to complete. We always recommend having some plastic cement handy as a part of your modeler's tool kit. If you prefer to fix your model in a particular pose then plastic cement will work. Plastic cement is also perfect to use if a joint is loose. Apply plastic cement in a single thin layer and allow it to dry completely before test fitting. Re-apply more cement if necessary.

Gunpla (plastic model kits) are designed to be built and displayed without the need for painting. Kits are molded in different colours replicating the colours of the actual mecha from the Gundam series. A technique called colour separation, where multiple parts of the model are molded in different colours on the same sprue is also used. Gundam kits often include stickers or water-slide decals that can be applied to the model to enhance its appearance. Some Gunpla kits come with pre-painted parts or parts with pre-applied details, such as metallic or translucent finishes.

Many modelers still choose to paint their kits to customize and add further detail. Painting allows for more creativity and personalization, enabling modelers to achieve unique effects, weathering, and colour schemes that may not be available out of the box. However, the kits are designed to be enjoyable and visually appealing even without painting, making them accessible to a wide range of hobbyists.

    Frequently Asked Questions

What makes this "TV Version" different from the other Ingram kits?

This kit captures the unique design elements of the Ingram seen in the original Patlabor TV series, including: Shorter, stouter proportions: Compared to the 1st and 2nd versions, the TV Ingram has a slightly different body shape for a more retro charm. Specific TV-accurate details: Expect features like the distinctive head antenna, chest armor separation, and even pilot figures molded inside the cockpit for an extra dose of nostalgia.

Does it have the same articulation as the other Ingrams?

Yes! Even with its TV-specific design, the MG Ingram 3rd boasts the same impressive polycap joint articulation for dynamic posing. Recreate iconic TV action scenes with its posable arms, legs, and even the lifting chest armor.

Is it pre-painted or do I need to paint it myself?

Similar to other MG kits, the TV Ingram comes in pre-colored plastic with some parts molded in different colors for easier assembly. However, for the full anime aesthetics, you'll need to add your own paint touches. This allows for customization and personalized weathering, but requires additional materials and some painting skills.

    What weapons come with it?

Get ready for classic Patlabor action! The kit includes: Extendable baton: The Ingram's signature melee weapon, featuring two lengths for diverse combat situations. Revolver: A sidearm for close-quarters encounters, stored in the right leg like in the TV series. Optional hand parts: Allow you to pose the Ingram holding its weapons in various ways.

Is it a good kit for beginners?

While it's snap-fit and glue-less, the TV Ingram is rated as an "Intermediate" kit due to its smaller parts and intricate TV-specific details. Beginner modelers with patience and some prior experience can try it, but experienced modelers will appreciate the complexity and customization options.
