The Story

Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam is a Japanese television anime series that aired from 1985 to 1986.

The story of Zeta Gundam is told through the viewpoint of Kamille Bidan, a civilian teenager and amateur mobile suit pilot whose parents are engineers working for the Earth Federation and the Titans.

While traveling to the Green Noa colony to meet his parents, Kamille is insulted by and strikes a Titans officer named Jerid Messa. This sets in motion a series of events that eventually leads Kamille to join the AEUG rebel group and fight against the Titans.

Char Aznable is a character from the original Mobile Suit Gundam series who reappears in Zeta Gundam as Quattro Bajeena, a member of the AEUG who fights against the Titans. The Gryps conflict is a major conflict in Zeta Gundam that takes place between the AEUG and the Titans over control of the Gryps space colony.

The Titans are an elite military force created by the Earth Federation to suppress any opposition to their rule. The AEUG is a rebel group formed by former members of the Earth Federation who oppose the Titans' oppressive tactics.

Of the four Gundam television series that take place in Universal Century, (Mobile Suit Gundam, Zeta Gundam, ZZ Gundam, Zeta Gundam is the only show that does not incorporate the Core Block System with its Gundam’s⁵.

The Core Block System is a method of constructing a mobile suit by attaching the upper body and lower body above and below the central block ("core block") where the cockpit and Minovsky fusion reactor are mounted¹. The Core Block System was first developed by the Earth Federation in the Universal Century timeline¹. A mobile weapon can be created through a series of weapon modules, which includes a Core module for the pilot¹. The Core Block System was later used in the Gundam Development Project's RX-78GP01 Gundam "Zephyranthes", its Full Burnern upgrade, and subsequently in some Zeta Project's mobile suits such as the MSZ-010 ΖΖ Gundam¹.

The Zeta Gundam is a revolutionary Transformable Mobile Suit (TMS) developed as part of Project Zeta, a third-generation mobile suit development plan launched by Anaheim Electronics upon request from the AEUG¹.

The AEUG (Anti Earth Union Group) is an anti-Federation movement which opposes the oppressive tactics of the Federation's elite Titans taskforce. The AEUG's ultimate political agenda was to reform the Earth Federation government and establish a space-nation for space citizens. The AEUG utilizes several units during the war, among them the Gundam MK II stolen from the Titans (the other two are turned over to Anaheim Electronics for analysis and reverse engineering), the prototype transformer MSA-005 Methuss, the Federation-influenced MSA-003 Nemo and MSN-00100 Hyaku Shiki, as well as the Zeon-influenced RMS-099 Rick Dias mobile suits¹.

Zeta Gundam Gunpla.

There have been a lot of Gunpla released from the Zeta Gundam series.  The very first Zeta produced was that of HG MSZ-006 Zeta Gundam (1999) followed by PG MSZ-006 Zeta Gundam (2000) then MG Zeta Gundam Ver.2.0 (2005). Since 2005 there have been a number of releases since then across the different build grades even revised versions Below is a list of these releases.

The "Original Zeta" - a new challenge for the 20th anniversary of Ver.Ka

MG 1/100 MSZ-006 Zeta Gundam Ver.Ka  A reimagining of the “original Zeta Gundam” that transcends time. Please check out this fantastic promo video about the release!

The "Original Zeta" About 40 years have passed since the first 1/100 scale Zeta Gundam model’s release, and the original Zeta Gundam that everyone marveled at while watching the TV series is back as a Ver.Ka. kit.

We'll leave you with the words written by head designer Hajime Katoki about his latest work MG Zeta Gundam Ver.Ka

"When looking at the setting illustrations for the Zeta Gundam drawn for the TV series, I noticed that its original design has a unique kind of coolness that vastly differs from the sleek silhouette that modern fans love.

The mobile suit in the setting illustrations has a head and arms larger than what everyone believes what the Zeta Gundam should look like, and the legs have thicker and blockier designs made with sharp lines as though they are made out of paper. However, its overall silhouette has a bulky appearance. Therefore, this Ver.Ka model kit became an opportunity to take on the setting illustrations for the TV series that have been overlooked for so many years.

I believe the design of the Zeta Gundam never gets old because it doesn’t have a “correct” way of transforming. It allows for everyone to have their own interpretations and ideal design balance. The Ver.2.0 and RG can be simply assembled to achieve cool results, but putting together this mobile suit never gets old, so please take a look at this Ver.Ka model and use it as an opportunity to pursue your own ideal Zeta Gundam design." Frequently Asked Questions

What is Gundam?

Gundam refers to a franchise of giant robot mecha anime created by Sunrise. It started with "Mobile Suit Gundam" in 1979 and has since expanded into numerous series, movies, and other media.

What is Gunpla?

Gunpla stands for "Gundam Plastic Model." They are model kits that fans can assemble to create detailed replicas of the mechs from the Gundam series

Do I need glue or paint for Gunpla?

Most Gunpla kits are "snap-together," meaning glue isn't necessary. The parts are also pre-coloured, so painting is optional, though many hobbyists paint to customize or add details.

Where should I start if I'm new to Gundam or Gunpla?

For anime, "Mobile Suit Gundam" or "Gundam 00" are great starting points. For Gunpla, begin with HG (High Grade) kits, as they are beginner-friendly with fewer parts and simpler construction.

What's the difference between HG, MG, RG, and PG Gundam model kits?

These abbreviations represent different build grades of each kit:-

HG (High Grade), 1/144 scale, simpler and smaller kits.
MG (Master Grade), 1/100 scale, more detailed with inner frames.
RG (Real Grade), 1/144 scale, combines the size of HG with the detail of MG.
PG (Perfect Grade), 1/60 scale, the most detailed and largest standard kits.
